Just a quick update.
I think the Samsung is a wonderful projector. I was very close to keeping it, but the laser speckle and rainbow effect put me off. If the speckle wasn’t there I may well have kept it. (It is so off putting to me on the Vividstorm screen I’m using). The colour accuracy wasn’t great either but that could be dialled in. As a package though it is very good.
So, I think I’ll be sticking with the LS500 unless something comes out soon that matches or exceeds the Samsung in terms of usability but without the image problems. The LS500 can’t produce as sharp images as the Samsung, but it has a cinematic quality as a result and has zero distractions to the picture, other than usual UST black levels. Hoping to see the Hisense PX1 or perhaps LG 715 at some point.
