Canon has announced a new entry-level digital SLR - the EOS 350D. It has

an 8-megapixel sensor, 3 fps shooting speed and a burst rate of 14

frames (Large JPEG).

The camera is a replacement for the EOS 300D, but many of its features

are closer to the EOS 20D. It uses Canon's DIGIC II processor, which

offers improved performance in many areas. And unlike the 300D, the new

model offers user-selectable options for AF and metering in the creative

zone modes.

The UK suggested retail price of the EOS 350 (body only) is £749.99. The

camera will also be available in kit form with the EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6

lens at £799.99, and with the EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 and EF-S 55-200mm

f4-5.6 II lenses at £1029.99. Availability is expected to be April 2005.

New macro lens for EOS digital cameras

Also new is the EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro USM lens. When attached to the EOS

20D, 300D or 350D, the lens gives a similar field-of-view to the EF

100mm macro lens used on a 35mm camera. The UK suggested retail price is

£349.99. Availability is expected to be April 2005.

I knew it was coming, i told paul it was to be unvield this month. Is it still a plastic body?

It's going to sell like hot cakes

Looks promising, even if it still has a platic body (according to dpreview). Wonder if its the same plastic though or something a bit more robust?

I'm looking to get a new dSLR sometime this year so it may be a contender especially if it has the same low noise and fast write times of the 20D.

The 350D was on the Canon stand ( no suprise there then! ) at the NEC
Focus on Imaging earlier this week.

Certainly is a black body camera.

Feels much better to me than the 300D.

More sturdy feeling and does not look or feel cheap like the 300D.

Not taken any test shots with it, as no memory card with me, and if I had been caught putting a card in it I might have been in bother ;)

These will really sell :) ( and kill the used price of 300D :( :) )

I am going to buy one for sure, will be an ideal walkabout camera with a lightweight lens.

Did anyone else see it?

( Was a great event to buy 'L' glass as usual, some great prices at Jacobs stand, often as cheap as impoorting but with warranty as UK lenses.
I did resist this year though, 28-300L was very tempting, there was one left at 5PM at Jacobs as I left...... regretting it now)

I had no idea about the show mark. It's not moving closer up north by any chance is it?

Hello Seany,

Is a once a year event at the NEC.
Dont think there is any other UK photo trade exhibition. Its a big annual event !

I forgot all about it or I would have posted something here at the weekend.
I just happened to be at the NEC yesterday for another event so called in while there

I know, I should have posted something here ast week

A couple of years ago I bought myself a 70-200 f2.8L with 'free' 1.4X 'L' convertor and 'free' canon 77mm filter to sweeten the deal, worked out same price as importing just the lens.
I got a great deal and hardly had to ask... Not that that helps Seany, maybe next year :)
