I have got a set of Kef eggs, which I am very happy with. I got them because they seem like a good balance between quality and discretion (ie. I couldn't get away with big floorstanders).

I am now in the process of redecorating the lounge and my wife has decided that she doesn't want them to go back up. In fact she doesn't want them at all. I therefore need to replace them.

She has seen the Mission FS2s and seems quite taken with the idea, but they just aren't good enough are they. I don't want to take a cut in quality.

The Gallo balls don't actually look much smaller (which is her big gripe, poarticularly the amount that they stick out into the room). Does anyone have a measurement from the wall if using the wall brackets?

Any other suggestions for possibilities? They need to be as discrete as possible and yet still sound pretty good.

    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Andy

Thought of going in-ceiling or in-wall?

    Plenty of options there.

Does your wife never listen to good music?

Sorry, but I have no time for female partners who won't tolerate reasonable facilities for Hi-Fi.

Give her a £2 tranny and ask if she prefers it...

My sexy partner loves the sound from my sound systems in several rooms.

And that's as it should be.

    Sort her out!

Them Missions are flat-panels, so they will sound worse than the Kef Eggs.

If I was you I would give a bit of Eric Cartman 'tude to your wife!

I feel sorry for you mate, some women just don't understand.

I'm lucky I just tell my wife that I'm having such and such and the only condition she sets is that I tidy up after installing, when I recently added a PS1000 sub, at first she said that it was just to big (she didn't argue she just wondered where it would go). Anyway then I switched it on and played a DVD, she then said wow that's great, put it where you want but can I watch fast and furious before you start moving it around:D

I'll get a measure on it tonight, if Uncle Eric doesn't post before then.
Off the top of my head i'd say around 5inches in total...around an inch for the mount, and 4inches for the speaker itself...really quite discrete.
Another option, a friend has these on their circular rings, on mantle piece bookshelves et cetera and then they really do disappear.

The Gallo balls are quite a bit smaller that the kef eggs, and they are very wife friendly!!! My other half really likes them.

I have mine placed on a shelf on the supplied rubber rings, and I really don't notice them.

My wife wants choice of colour but as long as it looks nice she is happy.

She understands that decent kit provides a decent experience.

She is even getting a bit snobby about it:clap:

But then she uses the top of the speakers to keep paper work on:rolleyes:

The TV and centre have paper weights on them, I think a bigger TV would equal more paperweight room:eek:

Perhaps I should get some Harlechs:laugh:

My wife-friendly choice were the Elac Cinema 1s. Changed to these from Mission 774s, 77c, and bi-polar rears. Not as much as a compromise as I'd thought it might be. In fact, I'd go so far to say better for movies.

Music, OK admittedly not as good from an audiophile perspective but they still do a damn good job - very impressed.

I got them for £323 from proaudiosystems.co.uk Was going to go or the Cinema 2s but there doesn't seem to be much in it. The 1s are smaller as well although plastic instead of ally.

Meant to say as well - I auditioned the Elacs back to back with the Mission FS1 package and the Elacs were way better IMO.

Also, I think they look neater because although the Missions are very shallow, they are tall and take up more vertical space.

    Thanks for the ideas.

I have been having a look around the net today and I have to say I have drawn a bit of a blank. There are some good flat speakers to be had (I was looking at ArtCoustic), but they are out of my price range.

The traditional sub/sat choices don't inspire me I'm afraid. I always felt that I was getting a much better than average sub/sat combowith the Kef eggs and I like that fact that I can put the volume up really quite high and theyare happy. I fear that I would compromise quality too much with most of thye lower specced options.

I am going to go to my local Gallo dealer and have a look at the balls in the flesh, but I fear that may result in a bit of a wallet battering as well, as they ain't cheap are they (having said that I haven't actually checked the prices yet).

The lesson that I have learned from all this is that I need to get my wife to buy in to the idea before parting with cash.

I guess I will be able to sell my eggs on here fairly easily. There seems to be a reasonable demand. I'll post when I know what I am doing.

    Thanks for that Spence

I'll have a think about it. I guess that you are in the "best thing since sliced bread" camp. I haven't heard a bad word about them from anyone that actually has them, though some reports from demos and reviews have been somewhat critical.

Well i am a very happy owner...so while i could wax lyrical about them for half a dozen lines i'm not sure it'd be that objective. ;)
The best thing to do would be to give them an audition yourself...making sure they've been run-in first.
