    Hi all

This is a daft question probably. I have searched online a fair bit, but couldn't get the answer!

I want to boost my security by encrypting my external hard drives. I thought I'd use my Mac's built in encryption option (right clicking the drive's icon on the desktop).

Does this actually encrypt the drive, so that it'll need a password if it's connected to any computer? I presume that must be the case, otherwise it'd be pretty pointless. I just wondered whether it might be a feature just for the laptop the drive is connected to.

If anyone can spare the time to help with this, I'd be most grateful.

    Thanks

    Simon

Thanks Mark - sorry for the slow reply. I have managed to encrypt all my drives.

Happy with the extra security - the help was much appreciated!
