Enabling recording on my second Sky+ box

Hi all - just wondered if anyone can shed any light on the following situation :

I have a Sky+HD box in the living room and I have a sub for entertainment packs, HD pack and Sky Movies.

I have just aquired a white Sky+ box (Amstrad DRX-280) and (after running some extra cable from the LNB) have got it working great in the bedroom.

Only problem is, I can't record on it as the card is disabled.

I want to KEEP my existing Sky sub downstairs but would like to be able to watch just the FTA channels upstairs AND record them? Is it possible for me to get a new card from Sky with this enabled or will I have to buy multiroom ?

I really don't want to go for multiroom as I only want the FTA channels in the bedroom.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi.
The only way to get what you want with the Sky machine is to pay for multiroom.
You'd be much better with a Freesat PVR which needn't cost much.

Hey Logi - You could be right there!

If that's the only way (multiroom) then the Freesat route seems a sensible option.

The only other possibility would be to cancel Movies (as I don't watch them at all to be honest) and pay for multiroom instead. BUT, I would only do this if I could get a nice shiny new 1TB box (for the lounge) and put the existing HD box in the bedroom.

Anybody know of any deals at the moment for existing customers to upgrade to multiroom and get a 1TB box ?

Best I can find on the Sky site is £99 for the box and then £60 for "standard installation" (which I don't need)!

You'd save a little by substituting the films pack with multiroom, and the best thing to do about that is ask Sky what they'll do to provide you with it the way you want it.
If they don't come up with a good offer the first time of asking you can always try again later.:)

LOL! Done that before Logi and got great results :) But, hey, I have paid them a lot of money over the years so I guess I earned it!

Actually, best offer via "MySky" at the moment is a £99 1TB box with free "installation" if I opt for Multiroom. Hmmmmm.... If I can get the 1TB box for half price I might be tempted...

You've done it before, you can do it again.
Forget about that MySky thing and ask them - and if necessary keep on asking.
