I've used ED for a variety of items for the last two years (also unbeatable and PRC direct). My experience is that they have been genuine about stock, and they answer the phone when you call them and give truthful info. Delieries have been as expected and on time. Like most online retailers the concern is what happens if something goes wrong, luckily haven'y had that (touch wood). Personal hate is those that claim to have stock and/or charge your card way before they ship or even have stock.

I bought a Panasonic ED85 DVD recorder from Empire Direct.
When I was ordering it ,they said it was in stock, when it didn't arrive I asked them why they said it was out of stock, seems it went out of stock in the time it took to take the order and payment, but they don't tell you that.

I applied for 'buy now pay later' option on a 42PV500 with Empiredirect at £2503 last Wednesday,Still haven't heard anything.I've applied for credit dozens of times and have been accepted within a minute everytime.

I then noticed they had reduced the price to match Currys/Dixons phoned them again last night to ask what the hell was going on with the credit agreement and got a load of bull about it taking so long because the item cost 2.5k and I'd have to contact the credit company.I then asked if they would match Currys price of £2220 and they said they don't price match when you apply for credit so cancelled it immediately and ordered one through Currys website and they have been very helpful letting me know whats going on with the credit application.

So I'd give Empiredirect a big thumbs down as they take an age with the credit application, backheal it onto the credit company when you phone them and don't price match when you apply for credit even though there is no mention of this on there website.

Empiredirect seem to think they are in the same league as Dixons/Currys/Argos and John Lewis but in my opinion they are simply boxshifters and I'll never deal with them again.

People critisize the likes of Currys and Dixons but at least they have their act together when it comes to credit.Empiredirect may well be good to use if you are simply paying by credit card but by the time they sort any credit ageement out the item will probably be on back order.I don't know what their warranty service is like but I'd imagine they would simply backheal it onto the manufacturer if it's anything like their ordering procedure

Ordered TH-37PV500WAL and TH-42PV500CAB from Empire Direct last week. Both arrived yesterday. Whole process went smoothly. Nice delivery guys turned up. Both UK models. All appears to be fine. Will post here if I find out anything to the contrary in the coming week. They also take American Express, if you're after the MR points. :D

Personally I had a bad experience with Empire, ordered a Hitachi 42500 in November which was 'with the delivery people' for a few weeks, and took 2 months or so with a lot of hassle from my wife to get a promised refund after cancellng.

Assuming you can get a decent deliver time they are probably OK.. UNTIL things go wrong and then you will really regret dealing with them.

The only upside to it, is that ended up buying the Fuji 50" instead. ;)

Last year they had an incredible deal on a Loewe Spheros 32" LCD which was just too good to be true. I confirmed the price with them twice both verbally and by email and was assured that it was for real. When I tried to place the order however, I was told they no longer deal with Loewe as they (Loewe) tend to fix their prices and they wouldn't be able to sell me the LCD at the price they first quoted even though it remained on their website for weeks after and ED are still apparantly selling Loewe products to this day. I would no longer trust a word they say.

    Well

Ordered 37PV500 last Monday over the phone. Very nice and polite lady and very informative. " There is also a free DVD player included even though it's not mentioned on the web" :lesson: She told me that the courier would ring to arrange delivery in the next few days.

I spoke to Empire the next morning and they told me that the "PLASMA specialist courier" was collecting it that day and would ring me when they got the unit into their local warehouse. :)

Received a phone call from the courier last wednesday evening. They told me they had my unit and would deliver it on Tuesday (today). They promised that the driver would ring first thing to inform of the delivery time. Happy but dubious as all was going too smoothly so far.

I received a phone call at 8.45 this morning from the driver. He claimed he would be here between 9 and 10.

9.39 and a knock on the door. Two polite and smart couriers carried my screen in. It turns out that all they do is deliver and install screen. Unpacked it carefully and went through it with me. Made sure EVERYTHING was there (instructions guarentee etc). They then re-packed the TV. DVD Player Missing :thumbsdow . According to the delivery note the DVD was to follow.

Went to ring empire to find out the timescale. They said it was due for delivery also today. as I put the phone down the doorbell rang again and there was another courier with the DMRES10.

Really impressed by their service all the way through. Informed, helpful, Careful and charming.

    Well done Empire Direct.

Is that CAB price right, as it now shows up for £2099.

I would take their hands off if the PV500 with Cabinet was £1797.

Which one did you go for?
