Email from my bank stolen card?

I just got a email from my bank. Now it could be spam/scam however the phone number seems to match up with the phone number on the back of the card. I have my card right here.

"Thank you for reporting your Barclays debit card as lost, stolen or compromised.

We have cancelled your card to prevent any further usage and issued a replacement card which you will receive within the next 2-4 working days.

If you have not reported your card to us, please contact us on xxxx

Yours sincerely,

Barclays Lost & Stolen"

Banks don't send eMails for important account related stuff.

Anything you receive from anyone saying there is something wrong with your account, click this link, is up to no good.

Cheers,

Nigel

It doesn't have a click this link.

The contact us matches up with barclays phone number

I just got a email from my bank. Now it could be spam/scam however the phone number seems to match up with the phone number on the back of the card. I have my card right here.

"Thank you for reporting your Barclays debit card as lost, stolen or compromised.

We have cancelled your card to prevent any further usage and issued a replacement card which you will receive within the next 2-4 working days.

If you have not reported your card to us, please contact us on 03457 345 345.

Yours sincerely,

Barclays Lost & Stolen"

I understand about email message source but not sure

Call the number on the back of your bank card and discuss it with the bank's fraud team.

Official emails should also begin with your full name as well, rather than left blank or 'Dear customer'.
If in doubt, don't click any links or call any numbers & just visit your branch or get a phone number from their website & call them on that number.

p.s why are there 3 threads on this?

p.s why are there 3 threads on this?
He clearly got 3 emails.
Threads like this make me chuckle. Instead of ringing the bank on a trusted number on the back of your card, people ask complete strangers.........

I take it you did not report your card as lost then?

It's probably a standard text, (misleading in this context). The card cancel/replace may have been triggered by Barclays having been made aware that your details were obtained fraudulently from, perhaps, some website you have used the card with in the past - along with thousands of others. And their method of dealing with this possible fraud is to cancel and replace, just as if lost. Same process, same standard text.

My advice to all, is to set up a dedicated email address for your bank.
And don't use it for anything else.

If you ever get bank emails to your other accounts, you know straight away it's BS.

Or why not ring barclays?

It doesn't have a click this link.

The contact us matches up with barclays phone number

Easy to get that info from lots of places. If in doubt always call the bank directly, they are well aware of the many phishing schemes out there.

so what is the point of the email? The phone number is legit, so just means you'll phone up your bank.

It has no click this link or phone this number (fake number or £5 a minute charge rate)

Without seeing the actual email, it's hard to say.
Perhaps there is a dodgy attachment, dodgy code in some of the images, or some of the random links redirect to other sites etc

First question, did you report it lost or stolen?

Nope logged into my online bank account fine

Then it's phishing as stated above, simple. Add to your blocked senders list.

As people catch on to "normal" phising scams, scammers are becoming more sophisticated in how they operate - this may be one in a series of emails sent to people before eventually the scam reveals itself. As mentioned, just block the sender, and better still call your bank and they will give you an email address you can forward the mail to - the more of these things they know about the better they can protect you and others in the same situation.

Also, it may be that you'll get a "follow up" call in the next few weeks from the scammers pretending to be your bank, following up on the legit looking email you received today...

Found out recently that these scammers also make calls to banks pretending to be you, so be aware of phishing scams as they will try to use this information to gain access to your account. They have no shame (reliable source happy to pm a mod with details, but not public)

There's also this scam.
They call you pretending to be the bank, & ask you to call them back using the legit bank phone number on their website/back of card. You hang up, but they don't hang up on their end so you're still connected to them. You dial the legit bank number & are reconnected to the scammer (who didn't hang up).
As far you know, you dialed a legit bank phone number...
