    Hi all,

I'm trying to arrange a demo of the 56, but no-one seems to have them (indeed I've been told by Sevenoaks that they have been discontinued and they're not making any more)... any ideas anyone?

    Thanks guys!!

    mat

ps - I'm in south London....

We may be ablke to get a demo model for you if you fancy a trip to St.Neots, Cambridgeshire.

It's not been discontinued, and it's actually now the H56A which has improved lamp life and the 16:9 lens mask

    THanks guys!

Dan5 - I'll check them out and see if they can arrange anything - thanks for that,

ntslik - that's a great offer, but you are a little too far away! I'd like to try some options nearer to home, but if they aren't fruitful, maybe I could get in touch again?

    Thanks guys!

    Mat

Contact John Deighton of Admiral Netmeeting solutions 01582 653333, a nice chap who asked Optima to send me out a demo unit for a week to try out, which they very kindly did. Price was £1495 + VAT

It helps prevent the halo effect by masking the light around the picture, also I've noticed is stops the ceiling light reflection

Thanks for the reply, is this built into the lens or does it just clip on to the front (that's the impresiion I get with people asking if it's to be availabe seperatly) ?.

Hmm I see (I think  !), is this so that when the projector displays a 16:9 image as opposed to a 4:3 you get proper borders then or am I getting it all wrong ??.

I think you are maybe reading to much into this, it's a very simple piece of plastic which sits over the lens, as with most projectors there is some very slight light spill around the picture, the mask just helps keep this down.

So basically it's a lens cap with a rectangular cutout. Genius. :rotfl:

Hmmm, well I got my new H56A on Monday and there was no sign of one with it. I've to call them next week as there was no warranty registration form either so I'll askthem about the cap at the same time.

    Hi Womble9,

OUt of interest, what other projectors where you looking at, and what made you choose the 56A in the end? Also, did you manage to get a demo of the unit?

To be honest the H56 was the only option is it was a kind of deal I did with Optoma through Sevenoaks, I had a H50 before which I was pretty happy with and knew the H56 could only be better so went for it. It's a great bit of kit just as all the reviews I've seen of it confirm.

Is the extended lamp life a new lamp or is it just due to a software mod?

I think it's a firmware mod, not a new type of bulb, but I could be wrong!

Thats what i was thinking if so is there anyway of up rating an old (as in 3 months) h56 without sending it off. Infocus have software mods on their website that can be downloaded. The themescene web page on the other hand is a bit crappy

It's worth ringing them up - if you get the product specialist for the 56 they should be able to do something. I rang them a week or two ago and that person was away and I got some office junior who didn't really know how to answer any of my questions, so watch out for him!
