Yep it does Progressive Scan. :D

I contacted the manufacturer and although its not listed on their website yet, I got them to send me the full spec of the model in PDF file

Note it doesnt do XVid currently, but this should be available later, via a software update.

I've just ordered one of these from Special Reserve. Has anyone used them and are they reliable?

I ordered this Eltax yesterday from Special Reserve and their website this morning states that it has been discontinued. Despite this, Special Reserve has already taken the payment from my credit card.

I think this smacks of sharp practice and I certainly will not recommend them or even consider them for anything.

    Mines arrived today as well.

Just played a number of DivX movies from DVD-RW, so looks promising so far. :smashin:

I'll try out the USB disk thing later

I've just purchased an Eltax DV-251 myself and so far my DivX movies play great, unfortunatley both specialreservce and gameloaded both stated the player supported Xvid as well as many other formats that the player does not :-( .

However I assume their must be a much greater reason for both sites discontinuing this item!

I don't mean to bump such an old thread, but I also ordered one of these around the same time as everyone else, I have done no software upgrades and got it from the same website as first listed and mine plays xvid just fine. Are people still having trouble with them or have they had updates? If so, where did they get them from and were there other changes too?

I too got one from Special Reserve who are now closed.

We are sorry to announce that Inter-Mediates Ltd. (t/a Special Reserve) has now ceased trading.

Mine is still boxed and unused as I got fed up waiting and bought a Dual from Asda. I did try the Eltax for an hour or so just to see if it worked ok and yes mine seems to play xvid and divx just fine, the front USB port also will see a usb hard drive but it has to be formatted to fat16 with 4gig max partitions.

I've still be unable to get any Xvid films to play the player :( . I've finally got a response from a call I logged with Eltax who confirmed the player does not (at least offically) play Xvid files. As far as I've been able to find their has been no new firmware's released yet.

I'd love to know how to get mine to play Xvid's. Don't suppose you or anyone could run AVIcodec.exe ( or similar), available from free-codecs.com, to see the format of your working Xvid files. I can't help but wonder if it's the audio format that's difference!

So can people please confirm that if I were to plug my 320gb Toshiba External Hard Drive into the USB - it will read and play DivX and avi files direct from the HD?
