There was Elite on the PC, you should be able to find it at http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/ ... Ian Bell the publisher has released the code for the game.

Like it says on the site, the Archimedes version was indeed the best. I played that for many moons and the graphics were seriously sweet for the day.

As far as I am aware there are no online versions. For online space games you could look at Jumpgate, this is essentially elite in space, pretty good game.

I do not know about the Archimedes, but I have played it on three platforms and the BBC model B was the best of the 3. Was this the same as the Archimedes?

The Archimedes was a 32bit RISC processor, pretty powerful back in the day. It was out the same time as the amiga, but was used in educational institutions.

Basically it lost out to the PC, however the version of Elite was the most amazing. It had full 3D graphics with coloured ships and really great AI.

Unlike the BBC version it didn't feel like set encounters with the same combination of ships, plus there was a lot more interaction from the GalCops etc.

    It just felt right.

Origin did an Elite type game for the PC called Privateer 2, its the best game of its type I've ever played. Should still be available really cheap.

Now that sounded sweet. I remember the Archimedes I had got an Amiga myself but I missed the programming side that I was use to with the Model B.
Sorry for repeating myself but Elite was my favorite game till Thief came out.
