Flying out to Kuala Lumpur on thursday 04/06/09. Anyone know what it's like for electronics shopping? Just stuff like cameras and gadgets. Can anyone suggest certain areas to shop in? Many thanks in advance.

Never been there myself but one of my team at work is half-Malaysian and has relatives in KL so visits regularly - he is also a techno-geek and always on the look out for cheap gadgets.

His view of KL is that it is great for software (of the dodgy kind) with loads of stores but not so great for electronics (he has always said that HK is better).

To make matters worse he has said that because the pound is so low the deals aren't so great now even in HK - you may end up paying similar to what you can pay in the UK.

The other thing to watch for (both KL and HK) is that the thing being offered is complete. It is quite common not to include the power supply, charger or battery, offer a cheap price and then sell the 'accessories' to you seperately bumping the price back up.

Cheers,

Nigel

Came through Singapore last week. Was shocked to find that electronic stuff was cheaper at home in Argos than in the stores at the airport . tax free or not. Thank god for Argos.co.uk and free internet access
