About an hour ago, someone knocked on her door offering to fix up her dilapidated porch, clean the gutters etc. She paid him his £150 and he left "for some materials". She's in her eighties; husband died a while back; nicest woman you'd ever imagine to live near. She's just knocked on our door asking if we know when he's coming back as he said we'd agreed that he was doing some similar work for us too. Police on their way. Positive outcome unlikely. Really angry at the lowlife antics of some people

Lets hope Karma comes into play, The morality of some people is shocking. I hope he gets caught and sent down!
I also hope his future potential cell mate is well endowed and takes a special liking to him!

Police just attended. Took statements. Who knows. Likely will get away with it unless caught next time and linked back to this job. I actually saw the dude an hour earlier next to her house with a ladder but it's a standard invisibility cloak for people who want to be ignored away as window cleaners, which is what I did :suicide: And an hour before I knew anything was up I had no reason to think anything different

Go have a look down the road to see if any neighbors have CCTV cameras, something happened locally to a neighbor of ours and the police turned up, took a statement and left.

I had to be the one to suggest they ask a few doors down if they had any footage. Sadly they were not connected but it might have helped.

Don't think anyone does. There's a shop at the top of the road but cams not facing our way.

It's unlikely a shop will allow you to see their footage but it's worth a try.

As you've said it'll be unlikely that anything can be done.

One avenue to pursue would be making what happened public, not on this forum, so that other individuals might stumble across it on google. Give your best ID possible while it's still fresh in your mind, mention the location, exactly what happened and who was targeted.

If someone were to google "elderly scammed in X" after it happened to them there may be a chance to collaborate and hone in on the individual if he attempts to repeat this.

And leaflet neighbours, so they can be on the lookout. Chances are they think they've just got away with it. May well be back for another dip with that lady, now they have already got some cash.
Terrible thing to have to have happen all round. No wonder you are angry.

Being the first house in the street I usually get the knock first.
I chase these scumbags off before they can con any of my neighbours.
Utter scum the lot of them :thumbsdow

Olive-skinned, possibly tinkers but she says Yorkshire accents. A car was seen shortly before with three occupants and a roof-rack with a ladder on it. So they're not going to be from 'round 'ere, I'll bet.
