just got this months Edge, and I noticed they are combining more and more reviews, i.e. Fight Night 3 was across all formats, yet they reviewed the 360 version (it tells you) and gave a score, same as Outrun 2006, but they reviewed the PSP version.

With so many formats out at the moment, do you think they should have various scores for each platform?

Not sure what other mags do TBH, as only buy Edge and Game TM (when it comes out!)

    Why bother.

Gamerankings.com does all the same thing, but for free, and you aren't paying a poncy snob's wages either! :D

Whilst that's an ideal I don't think it's realistic given the resources required to do so. Most people have an idea of the relative merits of each console so I don't think it's too much of an issue.

I used to like the system used by GamesTM, where they would do a review for one format, then put little boxes at the end for the other formats stating the main differences, great idea IMO.

Id rather launch myself up a dog's ar.se sideways than listen to any of that trumped up cack from EDGE.

TBH you'll find that both Edge and GamesTM mention other formats where it is relevant/worth commenting upon...

Me too, it's one of my favourite reads full stop - gaming or non-gaming.

A friend of mine pointed me in the direction of www.metacritic.com which is similar to gamerankings and gives a variety of views. Its good to check the highest and lowest ratings and see what they thought.

I use metacritic quite a bit for movies, but still prefer gamerankings. Another good comparison review site is Rotten Tomatoes.

Edge is an excellent magazine and as far as I'm concerned it's the only multi-format publication worth reading. Yes, they may come across somewhat pretentiously on occasion but, for me, that's part of the magazine's 'personality'. Most other mags are written very generically for a mainstream audience and therefore all read the same. Edge is unique and all the better for it.

I agree Mark. Whilst reading this month's magazine, it got me thinking about what I find so engrossing. I think for me, it's the features (both on the industry and upcoming games). It is one of the few gaming sources where I feel like I can actually learn something new.
