Why on earth is Ed Harris appearing in those pompous car adverts:confused:

Does he really need the money that badly?

If so, he could have chosen something decent

when I first saw the ad I thought "blimey, that's Ed Harris - what's he doing this for". I then decided that it couldn't be him and it must be a lookalike.

I guess I was wrong though

Hey, anyone trying to convince us that a Vauxhall Vectra is 'different' is worth a laugh in my book.

Peter Kay's John Smiths ads are hysterical... 'Ave it!'

They are quality engineering that hold their prices very well when you buy one but when you come to sell them "there's no demand so we can't offer you much."

I'm an admirer of both actors, but if Ed Harris were to get in his car, run over Samuel Jackson while he was wittering on about shoes and then disappear into the distance, I wouldn't mind too much.

The most amusing ad featuring a "rent a celebrity" is the Pele ad for penile erections.

I presume that as he doesn't speak English he thought that he was advertising burgers.

One can only gasp and wonder how many innocent motorists Ed killed and maimed making an auto commercial over thar en Angland. I can just imagine him yelling a**-hole every time he took off down the "right" side of the road cutting off some unsuspecting driver! :D

Maybe they'd get more mileage out of Ed if he assumed his Pollock character and splatter painted an auto?

Vauxhall have a history of appalling adverts - do you remember those god awful ads with Tom Conti? Then they followed those with the absolutely horrendous Griff Rhys Jones in ginger beard ads! :( Horrible, just horrible - I would never buy a Vauxhall on the principle of those awful adverts (that and the fact they make crap cars too!).

I have a strict 'Crap Advert-No purchase' policy as well.

Current people on it include (but not exaustive)

    McDonalds
Vauxhall (just got rid of my Vectra for a Jaguar, the SRi was good)
    Fairly Liquid
    Bounty Kitchen Roll
    Pizza Hut
and far to many more to list here.

..but my intake of John Smiths has risen recently :D :D

But the point of an advert is product awareness.
Name some really terrible adverts of the past couple of years
like the god awful Ferrero Rocher adverts.

By remembering them, the advertisers have done their job.

yes but they need to convince us that the product is something we should own as well. I doubt whether many people had an opinion on Ferrero Rocher before those ads... but pretty much everyone has a negative one of them now... ie. that they are cheap and tacky just like the ad.

    Above or below the Vectra?
