I shall be recording on a Panny E50 and using an LG4040 to burn to dvd-r. Can somebody please recommend a simple, easy to use (and understand!) piece of software? I shall be editing first on DVD-RAM and will only need to copy straight to DVD-R.

    Thanks in anticipation.

TMPG Enc Author is a very, very easy programme to use. It is even easier [INSERT SHAMELESS SELF PLUG] with my guide in the thread entitled "PC GUIDE: DVD-RAM (Including DVD-RW VR Mode) To DVD-R"!!!!

    I've got Vegas +DVDA.

Vegas is an excellent editor & the Dolby encoder is good . I don't use the bundled DVD Architect authoring software though. It's Sonic Foundry's (Now owned by Sony) first release of authoring software & is a bit limited particular with user configurable end actions.

Sonic Foundry are always very good to you at upgrade time & with all their other software being so good I'm sure the next update will fix most users problems.

It's worth the money for Vegas & Dolby encoder alone though. (Considering that a lot of stand alone Dolby 5.1 mixing & encoding utilities cost about £1000)
