Giving Android a go (HTC Desire) after a few years of iPhone use.

Is there an easy way to subscribe to and download podcasts as you can in iTunes. Either a bit of windows software or an Android app ?

    Cheers
    Martin.

Haven't found one that's the Equal of itunes yet.... I'm still using iTunes paired with iSyncR and iSyncR Wi-Fi to synch my Desire with iTunes podcasts

Thanks. I'd heard of Google listen a while back, but it was still an emerging google Labs project then. Im assuming it's fully up and running now.

dogcatcher works great for audio and video sync. You can also set it so that it only syncs via wifi.

Google Listen is really bad if you're used to itunes. Unfortunately I haven't found anything even half as good so keep my ipod touch for podcasts, basically meaning i have to carry two devices around.

I tried doggcatcher, currently trying google listen.

I like that you can add podcast feeds to Listen by adding them to Google Reader online, but I dont think you can control when it downloads new feeds (wifi only) so I'll probably switch back to doggcatcher.

    Thanks guys :smashin:

I'm using iSyncr and the wifi add on but my music app just throws the podcasts in with the rest of my music.

Is there an app that differentiates between music and podcasts like my old iPhone did?

DoubleTwist Android media player differentiates between music and podcasts but only if you install it's PC/Mac based syncing program and download the podcast through that, then use airsync between PC program and phone.

However, I found the pc side of it lacking, and it didn't recognise some of the podcasts I wanted, even what pasting in the URL. It's got an iTunes-ish interface, but just isn't very good unfortunately.

However the doubletwist media player for Android is excellent IMO. Nice big 'car' sized buttons. I now use that as my default mp3 player for audio and podcasts. Using doggcatcher for podcasts DoubleTwists picks them up as albums, so groups them that way.

    Look at your playlists....

iSyncr puts your podcasts into a playlist named "Unplayed audio podcasts"

I use it with Mixzing player....nice interface for car use with gesture scrolling and supports the AD2P bluetooth controls on my car stereo. also pauses/restarts for Google Navigation directions.
