Why do they bother putting easter eggs on a dvd ? If they have the footage there to be included on the disk then why not put access to it on the menu instead of hiding it ?

I have a music dvd by Korn and it's a real pain navigating through all the secret rooms to access the 'bonus' features. There's one part where you have to scroll around a control panel thingey with the cursor keys on the remote and enter a code before you can access more footage. It's such a pain thet they have had to included an insert in the box which explains what the code is. WHAT'S THE POINT IN THAT !!!

Am I missing the point here or does anyone else agree with me ?

I've always been annoyed by Easter eggs in computer games .. not to mention garbage like the flight sim. in Excel  .. when I read about the egss on the FoTR DVDs I was pretty ******-off.

Hmmm, the naughty-word filter kicked in ..

If you set your player to play the entire disc, it should do just that - play everything, INCLUDING the easter eggs - it has no choice. And to get there quicker, just use the >> skip button. :D

Check what chapter the easter eggs are located in. Then when you watch them later you canskip to them quickly. Easier to do this on a pc.

I agee - eggs ARE a total pain in the ass.

From memory, Galaxy Quest has one where you have to play the whole film (inc credits), then let it return to menu and wait a while before an icon appears. I couldn't be arsed to wait so I've naver seen it !

I was under the impression that the eggs in FoTR at least were only accessible remote key press at the right moment in chapter 48. I certainly don't recall seeing it simply selecting "play all".

My wife has that Korn DVD and she played it through Windows Media player 9 xp - it listed all the chapters and sub chapters I think - you can then look at whatever you like without going through the menu on the main dvd screen.

    Regards,

    Easter eggs suck
    Overly complex menus suck
Flashy animated intro sequences that you have to watch before you even get to the menu suck.
Flashy overly long animated sequences whenever you select a menu options suck.

I hope in years to come dvd authoring will get a little less cheesy and annoying.
Hopefully the novelty will wear off.

Easter eggs are designed so geeks can find them as quickly as possible and post them on these forums and the rest of us can choose whether or not we can be bothered to find them.

Ok I'm a geek then - Just scene selction to credits, then hit FF a couple of times til the menu comes up. Then you can watch the egg.

    And yes, Eggs suck
