I have read somewhere in this forum that Pan E55 is to be replaced in Feb/Mar by E57 i think. If so when will be the best time to buy E55. I take it they will be disounting it before the new model arrives.

Also can you tell me if E50 is still in production. I have seen one at Sainsbury for the same proce as E55.

    Thanks

The E55 replaced the E50 (which is out of production now). There wasn't really ever a price crash on the E50 - supplies of them just dried up in the preceeding weeks prior to the E55 arriving and the new model was in short supply for awhile. Bottomline is there is never really a 'good time' to buy AV stuff - there's always something better around the corner.

    krishav.co.uk

    And it is £199

Worth looking at anyone? Over the E55 (I know it has more gadgets, but does it record or play any differently?)

It has LPCM recording should you wish to record music concerts (etc). Obviously it also has iLink, PC/SD Card slots and iLink. Other than that though it's effectively the same machine.

Am I right? That the E55 cannot read DVD-RW, but the E65 can?

That might make it worth the extra 25 dabs (as well as the cool extras)

Going multi region on the Panny is not ideal, assuming you have R1 DVD's to play in NTSC format. You have to go into setup each time you change format between NTSC and PAL as the Panny doesn't auto switch.

If I'm wrong, please let me know how to do it to save me trying to return the E55 I bought last week.

    Thanks

    Ian

I've checked with RS to confirm that the whole panny range doesn't have an auto. Apparently it is common among DVD recorders. They suggested going to the Pioneer HD model, or possibly a Toshiba?

DVD-RW are notoriously "iffy". What plays in one machine might not play on another, so the safe answer is "No" :)
