I have a Panny E30 and it is a fantastic replacement for my tired VHS. One thing I have noticed though, is that when I record from Sky Digital using a RAM disc, on playback through my Panny PL10 it correctly switches to widescreen mode but when I use a DVD-R disc it doesn't activate widescreen. Is there a specific reason for this?? Gordon
It probably depends on how you are using the -r disc. I would think that the -ram data is identical to that data received from the program source and contains the switch signal. This is probably being lost when the -r disc is finalised as a dvd that will play in other machines. Might be interesting to try an unfinished -r recording and see if that switches correctly
I've tried playing back recordings made on -r discs before finalising, Ken, and they don't activate the widescreen mode. It must be something in the design of the ram discs. It's a pity because recordings made from Sky digital onto -r discs look stretched, epecially when played back on a PC monitor. Gordon
Thanks David. I thought that might be the case. I've been having problems with dvd-r discs recently. I bought a pack of 25 Choice branded discs and the first 2 I had no problem with but the last 2 have either given very patchy playback or not recorded at all. Tonight I tried to record some stuff on a blank Choice disc and it recorded for a few seconds and then switched off. On switching back on again the display said "recovering". What are the best (cheap!) discs to use on the E30? Gordon
I don't recommend cheap DVD-Rs, but you could read the following posts: http://www.avforums.com/frame.html?http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56545 http://www.avforums.com/frame.html?http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48848
