E-50 analogue camcorder and pc

    I have an analogue camcorder and want to transfer my footage
    onto my pc,when i buy a E 50 can i use the footage from a ram disk on my pc to edit it and the burn it to a dvdr.I have a dvd ram drive.

    do i have to convert the footage to another format to play with it on my pc.I have some good video software ie vegas4 premiere and media studio pro.

    I know i can just burn a dvdr disk but would like to get into video editing as a hobby
