While installing the 1.7 update i noticed this passage in the user agreement,

    4. CONTROL MECHANISM

SCE may use DNAS (Dynamic Network Authentication System), a propriety system designed to authenticate game titles and the PS3 system when you connect the PS3 system to a network. DNAS may retrieve information about your hardware and software for authentication, copy protection, account blocking, system, rules, game management and other purposes. The information collected is not your personally identifying information and there is no way to identify you from the information collected by DNAS. Any unauthorized transfer, exhibition, export, import or transmission of programs and devices circumventing DNAS may be prohibited by law. SCE reserves the right to use any other authentication or security system, or method in connection with the PS3 system.

Not trying to make any kind of big deal about this, i was just curious to know if DNAS was the much discussed process that was supposed to lock a game to a specific console, and if anyone had any thoughts.

They had it on the PS2 as well, just checks to make sure your not using a copy. I heard that they could ban your mac address on the PS2 to ban you from online play??

Every online PS2 game ive played has the DNAS authentication system, like above stated, its to ensure your hardware and software are genuine, no mod chips or CDR copies, so its not new.....
