Hi hope someone can please just explain this for me...

Basically I'm getting a HDTV with built in Freeview so I am buying an aerial for that but do I need to buy a second aerial for the Sony RDR HX870 which also has Freeview in it.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000HE1NV4/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=A3M1ZIHJFUJ5Q4

So if I was recording a freeview channel on one of the tuners and wanted to watch another channel at the same time do I need another aerial for it.

Do I need two?

You only need one aerial.
The aerial is looped through the DVDR to the TV.
Aerial to DVDR Aerial in.
DVDR RF Out to TV Aerial in.
Be aware that set-top aerials...with or without built-in booster are useless for reliable Freeview reception unless you live within a few miles of the transmitter.

Your aerial goes into the back of the DVDR, then a second RF cable goes from the DVDR RF out to the TV RF in. Just like a TV aerial and a VCR did in the bad old days...
