My hard drives needs replacing on my pioneer DVR-5100H. Am assuming a standard pc-type ide will do the trick and I know its 80gb. But what about RPM? what speed is the one inside running at. Plus is there any other things I should know before buying one. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Regards

I recently took my dead Pioneer 530 to a Pioneer Service Centre. While there we talked about the possibility of replacing the drive. Apparently the new drive has to be intalled using a service cd or it will not work. I suspect the service cd reads the serial number of the drive and writes it to memory on the logic board, or it might write to a sector on the drive. This is checked on switch on.

This might not apply to your model but beware.
