I'm about to run an htpc to my ae700.

Can I simply use the dvi output via an adapter and a vga lead to the PJ itself?

What sort of improvements could I expect over normal vga?

Any help, and links to appropriate adapters, would be appreciated.

The VGA signal you'll get will be no different from that coming from the VGA socket, because they're generated by the same components .. the DVI socket on the card is actually DVI-I which includes RGB analog signals as well as digital ones, all the adapter does is to provide socket adaptation.

Normally the adapter comes with the card.

Note that this is not the same thing as the ATI component 'dongle' which is more than simply two sockets back-to-back.
