Does anyone use a DVI splitter ?

I want to split the DVI output from my Lumagen ProHDP to both my PJ and my planned Pioneer MXE-1 plasma.

I have found a Gefen splitter but it only supports HDCP on one output...not a big problem as the MXE-1 is not HDCP compliant itself and I plan to use SDI modded sources.

Are they any problems with these DVI splitters with regards to the EDID data passed from the display devices to the scaler ?

Does anyone know of any other DVI splitters ?

    Cheers, Lee

    Back again

If you do have problems with EDID - then we've been getting great results with the Gefen DVI Detective - you can fool your PJ into thinking its still attached to the device you've switched away from.

A couple of customers who have been having nightmares when switching or unplugging PC's and DVD players have found this solution to work a treat.

    See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?prod_id=1378

    Best regards

    Joe

    Hey Joe,

I took a look at the HDMI splitter but would need to use HDMI to DVI adapters as I have the DVI cables already...don't think this would cause a problem though.

Does the HDMI splitter work with resolutions other than the standard video resolutions ? as I want to be able to send 1280x720p to the PJ and 1280x768p to the plasma ? or is the resolution irrelevant as it’s just passing a data stream ?

I looked into the DVI Detective before Lumagen added EDID support as my HTPC just couldn’t see the Lumagen.

I am assuming that in a worse case scenario I would need one for each display.

What we need is a dual DVI output option on the Lumagen then we’d be laughing.

    Cheers, Lee

    Hello Lee

We can possibly trade your DVI cables for DVI to HDMI cables - and you usually get at least one 2m cable with the Gefen kit's.

I'll confirm the accepted resolutions via the HDMI splitter - though we've been running the HDMI switchers at non 'Video' resolutions so cant see it being any different for the splitters.

As you say EDID now included in the Lumagen Vision range - so far its mostly been PJ issues we've had to resolve with the DVI Detective.

    Best regards

    Joe
