    Hi all,

I am getting a PD5200 Plasma and wanted to know what is the best DVD Player to put with that. I read in What HiFi that the Samsung DVD-HD935 is good and has DVI for £150 but can't seem to locate one. Is the 945 the same but better?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Boom :smashin:

Just because a player has DVI or HDMI doesn't necessarily mean that it will give the best picture. Samsung don't have a great track record in dvd player design and What HiFi reviews can be a bit :zonked:, for example, they spent a long time slagging off the Hitachi plasmas and now rate them better than the latest Pioneer - go figure. There is much more to PQ than just the digital interface. If the drive and MPEG decoder aren't up to scratch, then DVI, no matter how good it is will improve the picture. Consider also the quality of the audio processing in the player, another area that others have been much better at.

    Just food for thought

I don't know the Hitachi model specs too well but I cant see HDCP support on the DVI input - which means unless you find a non HDCP Player with DVI out your snookered for playing Commercial DVD's.

The Samsung HD-945 is HDMI which will be HDCP - so no good; possibly someone has info on non HDCP players or can confirm if the Hitachi Display is HDCP enabled.

    Best regards

    Joe
