I've just read on another forum that Customs have been in contact with DVDSoon and from now on they are going to be showing the true value of the contents of their packages.

Has anyone heard about this or is it a load of **** ?

Their prices are still quite low though. Its the Royal Mails £7 'handling fee' that pisses me off.

Is that £14, £14 on top of the £7 making £21 or £7 custom and £7 handling?

How come when you pay postage at the other end you have to pay custom fees on the postage, then handling from the Royal Mail sound just right for rip of Britain?

    £14 on top meaning £21 in total. It's a disgrace isn't it.

I was going to order Alien Quad from them in the new year, looks like thats gone out the window. I dont know how much you'd likely to be stung for that but I can imagine it would be enough to make it not worth while.

I wonder if this means they are going to be stopping more and more stuff from Dvdsoon to check they are sticking to the rules. You find somewhere thats cheap and offers great service, and bloody Customs goes and sticks the mockers on it - W******

Is this happening on all orders now or is it a bit of a gamble?

I ordered the 1st series of the West Wing and it wont be such a good price once customs & the RM put their hands in my pockets. :(

Royal mail and customs are thieves and nothing more, hopefully europe will see how they are stealing from the british public and take an intrest like they are doing with booze cruises, although seeing as r1 sellers are usually outside europe maybe not.

Can't defend RM - their charge is outrageous

HMCE are only doing the job given to them by HM Gov they do not determine policy only enforce it & to be frank they are not exactly zealous in implementing this policy - I have imported many discs costing over £18 (which have been correctly declared) and never paid duty.

If the EU had their way there would be no £18 grace on imports from outside of the EU - G Brown told them that he wasn't going to implement that policy, so it's best if they take no interest in this.

I thought the situation was that providing the dvd did not cost more than £18 that there was no duty due.If this is still the case why not just import in singles, most cost a lot less than this even with postage?

Most single disks are fine, but boxsets, etc will be over the £18 limit.

From this thread I can see that most people don't really object to paying the tax, but it's the rip-off policies of RM that people object to.

I must agree with those sentiments and if there was a way to pay the tax upfront, then I'd do that. What annoys me are those people who moan about paying import duty, then moan that the NHS, education system, etc is going down the pan!

Why can’t the Customs just bill you for the duty rather than adding a third party into the equation for them to make money at our expense?
I would like to import other goods from the States but find the extra duty by the RM just off putting.

I just ordered 6 new films and and a bit concerned about this customs issue.

I processed each order individualy but one after the other but as it is this first time I have used Dvdsoon wanted to check do they send orders out individualy or will they group them together.

The reason Royal mail charge a fee is they pay the custom fee upfront so customs will release the goods that they are contracted to deliver by the regulator

Still a big rip off :thumbsdow

I got my last delivery from DVD Soon xmas eve 3 dvds in one box marked up $86.00 phew  I was lucky.

Looks like all single orders from now on Guys :boring: Shame they don't save the customers Credit Card details, which would save typing them in 500 times a year  :boring:

Oh well lucky I got my Alien Quad in Early

You will learn to spell :lesson:

My Shield Season 2 just arrived with the price of $55.98 clearly stated on the ticket. No customs charges though:clap:

My New Years Resolution is to buy less DVDs, the threat of customs charges will help me!

Yup, just received the second season of 'Frasier', marked up at CAN$42.98 (only just over the £18 mark I know).

Might have to look elsewhere for the 9th and final season of 'The X-Files'.

Luckily the Wal-Mart in Gander Newfoundland (through which I travel every 3 Months or so) sells DVDs at very keen prices - undercutting DVD Soon by a couple of CAN$ about half the time, and not much more the rest.
