Silvered out posted at 12:45

"Kent police have recently been working
with the Federation Against Copyright
Theft to bring down the illegal pirate
UK website DVDSilvers, which ended
in a raid back in April of this year.
Established last September, the site
had been selling everything from
inferior region free versions of major
DVD releases, to extremely poor
quality transfers of the unreleased
Star Wars trilogy.

Police raided two residential homes and a shop, arresting a 34
year old man and his wife in the process. FACT then seized
goods with an estimated street value of £100,000 which were
found at the various properties, including counterfeit Playstation
and PC software. The couple have been released on bail and
further arrests are expected.

Spencer Mott, operations manager for FACT said, "There have
been a number of milestone cases this year at FACT, and this is
undoubtedly one of them. DVDSilvers was a blatant criminal
enterprise. This operation was multi-agency, international cross
border and involved public-private co-operation, a combination
that poses the only real threat to an organised counterfeiter."
entered by Robert John Shepherd

I believe it's the reason Star DVDs (or whatever they were called) that were going to undercut just about every supplier in the country never actually got off the ground after everyone put their preorders in. They were the people behind DVD Silvers, and they finally got busted as they were about to go legit as an R1 importation company.

Did you dig that up from DVD Reviewer? I remember reading it quite some time ago.

It's a good place to keep abreast of the world of pirate busting. They seem to be about the only place that post updates of what's going on.
The net's closing in on them now, and the gap between theatrical and DVD release is getting smaller and smaller - it's probably the only way the studios can really combat piracy. And if it puts legit discs in our players sooner then it can only be a good thing. Now if they'd just do something about bringing the prices down a little...
