    Hi there,

I just bought a Dolby 5.1 sound system. I was hoping you could give me a few pointers on good DVDs to test it out and hopefully will make me say wow!

So I'd like some recommendations, both from my reasonably-sized collection (DVD Profiler link hopefully below) and some that you recommend I really should get to test out my system. Unfortunately I have no DTS capabilities so please don't recommend any with fantastic DTS as I won't be able to enjoy them!

So thanks in advance for your recommendations.

In my opinion Star Wars Episode 2 Attack Of The Clones has the best Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack that I've ever heard.

Did you buy second hand because I was under the impression that any DVD player and av amp be it separates or all in ones built in the last 3 or 4 years was DTS compatible.

hi, thanks for your reply - it's certainly not DTS compatible. It's a nice cheap Acoustic Solutions system from argos only capable of DD.

So far it sounds good, Spider-Man was great!

    Alright Mugma,

Movies with wicked DD 5.1 ( I prefer dts me self but thats for another time)

Have you by any chance seen Minority Report 'cos there are weapons used by the law in this movie that would make you pass wind if your system is up to it:eek:

Or hows about 28 Days Later, in the first part of the movie a petrol station get it and Booom it goes up like a petrol station thats just got it:D

Or......Armageddon.......Apollo 13 (ie the Launch sequence)......

There are so many movies out there that are good for one reason or another please please please dont get caught up in just how a movie sounds, yes it get you going but there are some very very good films that aren't all about Bangs and Booms
they're about the story... I dont want to sound like I'm 'avin a go by all means Enjoy your movies the way you want. But remember the Story :smashin:

    Happy Listenin':D

There are loads, any War film would do the trick, and LOTR both FOTR and TTT are excellent.

The latest one i was surprised at was

    25th Hour - Edward Norton

Juts skip to the club bit, and let your system take over

I watched first, when i tested mine,

Pearl Habour - Only the 45 min Habour Attack. Excellent :smashin:

Hey as your here,I've seen a couple of cuts of T1 and way back seem to remember a bit in the police station where Arnie boots a door open and there is a Copper stood there screamin nasties at him. Then through his glasses Arnie decyphers what has been said and replys to the cop then kills him. Obviously I cant state what was said but if you know you'll get it. Is this cut of the movie still out there or not?:)

hey thanks for all those recommendations, guys, I have some of the titles you suggested and plan to get others.

Don't worry, blue73, I agree that the story is important too, after watching "Batman & Robin" last night hit this point hard into me LOL. These suggestions are only so I can enjoy the new system and show it off to others hehe. As for pearl harbour... wow. What amazing sound. Never mind the movie the sound blew me away.

In time I'll get a nice DTS system but for now I'm happy - I've only got a year to enjoy it before going off to uni so I didn't want to spend too much.
