Interesting this thread has occured. I have spent the afternoon setting up my gear following a move.

Was trying to find a DTS set up disc.

Now T2 advertises it has the THX set up routine. but could i find it......could i buffalo!

It's supposed to be on disc one....can any help me find it?

Does it play in DTS mode or just good old Dolby Dig. (which i used the Video Essentials disc to calibrate.)

Heard mention of the AVID and Ulrimate discs.....do these have calibration tones in DTS.

Co incidentally. got the sound set up exactly as it should be using a sound pressure meter. Films souns ok...but music DVD's Uuurghh! Way too much noise from the rears...(Genesis, Eagles, McCartney) Any one else experienced this.

    Cheers

Sensory control, left click on on the options and it'll highlight the THX logo on the T-800's skull. Click when THX is highlighted to go into the video & audio tests.

    Karma ,

The T2 DTS soundtrack is rather.....GOOD!

I also find music DVD's and DVD-Audio discs too loud from rears with system setup for movies. After much listening, I reckon music is better in good old stereo only. How many times have you gone to a concert, and asked to sit in the middle of the stage..:D

Thanks to Nathan John and Apul for your comments. I'll have another search on T2.

Yes I agree with you John, stereo has always been the best option for music (I use Audio Research Amps, Meridian CD player and B&W 801's) Its nice to have the bolt on for films, although i had hoped that the mix for concerts would be ambient hall and audience noise only through the rears.

Maybe one day the balance engineers will get it right...that'll be the day I may get another set of 801's for the rears!! (and a barn big enough to take them)

As for sitting in with the band, speaking as a drummmer.......sorry, bloke who hangs out with musicians...

    Thanx for the help!

as far as I remember (correct me if I'm wrong:lesson: ) the optimiser track isn't to be used with a SPL meter, it is only for checking if the right sound is coming out of the right speaker.

I waited a long time because of the high cost but finally I ordered the avia disk. It is worth the money. My system sounds and looks a little better. I have other setup disks but avia is the best. I'm very happy I have it.

I think I read somewhere that the THX optimizer sets the system up for viewing of that particular movie, as each film has slightly different colour and grey scale, so although it would be a good start it won't suit all movies.
I set my system up perfectly with the T2se disk only to find that when I watched colourfull movies like monsters inc the picture seemed washed out.

From the THX site.....it does indeed suggest individual adjustment for differant discs! Well I never knew that.

THX Optimizer software allows the user to optimize the presentation of THX Certified DVD titles on home theatre systems. Available only from THX Digital Services, THX Optimizer is a carefully designed set of audio and video test signals embedded on all THX Certified DVD titles released since summer of 2000. The Optimizer test signals are identical to the final reference tests used by filmmakers during the mastering of each release. These signals allow the user to perform a series of audio and video tests and adjust the home system's performance to guarantee the best possible presentation of each movie – and experience each one as the director intended.
