Ive had a Philips DVDR1000 recorder about 2 years now and its decided to play up. Switched it on the other week and it just showed an error code.Ive had no luck finding out what the code means apart from updating the firmware (which it is updated)
If i run the self test by holding play when i plug the machine in it sometimes (twice infact) runs through and says all is ok. I can then switch the machine off and on and its then fine as long as i dont turn the thing off. Unfortunately someone in my house hold switched it off yesterday and now its doing it again but the self test wont work now either. I know the machine is physicaly ok its just having trouble initializing itself. Ayone with advice or websites that may help would be apreciated.
Id rather try and fix it myself if at all posible before i take it to a repair shop.

Try the DVD+RW Forum where you may get some info but I don't think you're going to get much joy. After 2 years of nothing but trouble with my DVDR 890 I'm finally glad to be rid of it and am very happy with my new Sony RDR-GX300.

When you scroll through the forum above you'll find that the Philips machines have no end of problems and that they're usually terminal. Mine was repaired 3 times in 18 months and the same fault (won't read commercial DVDs) then re-appeared for a fourth time which was the last straw. I'd like to get some kind of refund from Philips but I'm not holding out much hope.

    Michael.

    Hi -
I also have a DVDR1000 - and have had nothing but trouble. Same problems you seem to be having - error message everytime it's swithced off - "DB 7F118110" or something like that.

I have tried all firware updates I can find - to no avail. And it's been serviced 3 times, and the guy just nods his head "hmm.." (I'm based in greece). So I'm starting to think about something else.

I have a philips plasma (42PF9952), and this dvd player's playback looks stunning - and only through an RGB scart. So I am also reluctant to get rid of it.

If you don't mind me asking - have you tried anything else? what set up do you have?

    Kind regards
