I've got a Pioneer DVDR 5100 recorder and usually use 4x DVDR discs in this.

Is there any problem in using 8x media in this machine (I realize it would not write at the faster speed) as this would enable me to buy the same media for use in this recorder and my computer DVD recorder.

I know there used to be problems when using 2x media in 1x recorders but am not sure if the same issues arise with the faster discs.

Thanks for any advice anyone can provide on this.

Using 8X should not be a problem. I use 8x discs on both my Toshiba XS32 (which is a 4x machine) as well as my PC DVD writer (which is also 4x max). In fact it's hard to find 4x media these days...
