Hi, I am looking for a dvd player that has 5.1 audio outputs, as I have a now old Sony amp that has 5.1 audio inputs. ( i.e. 5 off rca connectors ) so I am looking for a dvd player that has a built in decoder and the 5 audio connectoras on the back. Any suggestions, recommendations??

    Cheers

A large percentage of DVD players have built in decoders and 5.1 analogue RCA outputs. If the player is listed as being able to play DVD-A or SACD then it must have these outputs as these formats can only normally be decoded by the player and output to an amp via the RCA connections.

What is your budget for the DVD player? With this we will be able to offer some advice as to what is good in your price range.

I'm considering the pioneer dv585 & Yamaha DVDS657 DVD, they both have the 5.1 connections you require

dv575 is £120 in richer sounds, and reported to be better than the new 585 :smashin: you'll find it is a very highly rated player

On the limit when playing r1 dvds you have to set the player to ntsc or auto,if set to pal the picture will judder. As for cd audio being 'horrible' this implies that the guys at Cyrus do not have any idea what they are doing. You do not mention what the rest of your setup is,this probably is the cause of your horrible cd audio

i have to say, being tuned by cyrus doesnt mean a lot, if the components used in the first place suck, they can tune it as much as they like, wont mean it sounds much better than any other player around its price range....lol

if its supposed to sound almost as good as a Cyrus model then either Cyrus have dropped their standards waaaaay low, or they are waaaay overcharging...heh

Yes, and the power button fell off 10 minutes out of the box -- and it wouldn't play my dual discs.

Better still in this months what hi-fi the RS advert still lists the 575 as £99.95.
This is a special price for readers of the mag, so be sure to quote it when you enquire about buying one.
Given the price the 575 has to be the best DVD players around IMHO.
If bought from RS it will be multiregioned outta the box, play almost any disc thrown at it apart from DVD-RAM, and DVD-A & SACD playback is great.
Picture quality thru PROG-SCAN component output is fan-bl**dy-tastic, (make sure you use decent component leads if you go down this route though), and it has been said that the component output is better than some players equipped with HDMI outputs in the budget end of the market.
Go out and buy with confidence, for a hundred quid you can't go wrong.

    Graham.
