Simple question - looking for suggestions to replace my Marantz CD6000OSE KI cd player and Tosh 520 DVD with a one box DVD/CD solution.
Not too fussed about SACD or DVD-A but must have MP3 playback.
Price range around the £300-£400 mark
I know it'll be a compromise but I'm trying to consolidate my kit.

    Thx

    Downtothebone,
IMHO your problem is going to be matching the Marantz CD replay abilities. I have the same CD player and it's not until you get to around £1,000 + that DVD players will start to match it. I think your best bet would be something like a Arcam DV88 secondhand, but even then you will probably have to pay around the top end of your price range.

    Just my 2p worth
    Regards
    John

I agree with you there sticker, the cd6000ose ki sig is a bloody good player, to get a dvd player to match the marantz cd quality and double up as a dvd player is going to take some serious money.
Downtothebone, I think you have to atleast double your budget to get 2nd hand!

If you want CD playback as good as (or better than, IMHO), the CD6000 then look at the Philips 963SA.

I owned a CD6000 OSE and didn't rate it too highly - the much older 63 MK II KI is much better - but the 963SA is VERY VERY good as a CD player in its own right.

What amp are you usingas a top end DVD that acts as CD transport only could work depends on the DAC's in your amp though try them out and see what you think. You could look at a HK DVD30 DVD-A and excellent DVD player PAL PRog etc not sure what its like with CD (welll with movie sats its bloody good through an AVR 4550)

The CD6000OSE is not the same player as the CD6000KI, the KI is a vastly upgraded version of the OSE tuned for the the UK market. They do not sound the same.

sticker - not really sure why you quoted me, and then mentioned the CD6000 KI, as I never said anything about this player in my post at all....?

Andy the reason I quoted you was that you mentioned that you owned the CD6000OSE and didn't rate it, but the KI version is a very different beast soundwise and also money wise, its twice the rrp price.

What I was trying to say was that if you are comparing the OSE version to the 963 then you may be right, but the 963 does not compare to the KI version in CD replay abilities. The KI is still one of the best CD players in the £350 to £700 price bracket and it takes a very good DVD player to beat it for CD replay.

    Regards
    John

All thx for the input ... looks like I'll stick with my current setup until funds allow me to make the change. Given my current budget I'd narrowed it down to the Philips 963 machine but as I mentioned originally it was always going to be a compromise.

Interestingly a CD6000OSE KI went for £300 on ebay yesterday not bad for an 'old' player (considering I paid £350 for mine new).
