DVD to Amp connection

I am new to all this and I want to get it right first time. So here is what I need to know.

I am going to pick up my surround system later on today and was wondering which cables I'd need to connect my DVD to the Amp. My DVD has Audio out ports L, R, and Sub and also has a Digital audio Out (PCM/Bitstream) Optical port.

Am I right in saying that the optical would give me the best sound, so I would just need an optical cable or am I missing something here.

Any help appreciated.

Yup, a digital output is generally better and in your case you'll need digital to get 5.1 sound out of the amp since the player doesn't have multi-channel analog outputs.

Edit: beat me. :)
