DVD Surround Player With USB compatibility

Novice Member
Hi All, My dads just about to get out of hospital after major heart surgery and want to get him something nice he can use while recovering.

He currently has an old DVD player with surround sound built in (a cheap one) It can take a USB drive and play some old Xvid files, but wont play MKV or anything with much of a bit rate.

Cant afford a standalone amp and all the bells and whistles but was looking if there is a more upto date style of device I can get him that can just use the existing speakers. It actually doesnt even need to play DVD/Blue rays as he never uses them.

So any device that has small built in amp that will work with 5.1 speakers, that can accept a USB drive and play ideally a wider range of formats and bit rates from the drive. If it had smart features like netflix/prime then even better!!

Cant use a PC as tried that before and really want something simple with a normal DVD player type remote for him

Any advice would be greatly appriciated

Does the existing DVD/Surround system have any Inputs (other than USB)?
