I've been looking around for a while but I'm having problems finding a unit to store my DVDs.

I need to store approx 1000 DVDs (in their cases)
I don't want an Argos/Ikea style cabinet, but something in metal/glass or outlandish (but not like the Boltz units)
I want to source from the UK so I dont incur customs and courier charges.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I take it you've read that thread?

I really need storage for 1000+ DVDs not 150+.

When I was a student I used to use Argos or Ikea chipboard cabinets stacked together, but now 20 years on I want something a little bit special.

I'd recommend visiting www.jali.co.uk and downloading their design program. You can build exactly what you want to fit the exact space you have.

The Real-Spectral DVD98WQ looks great but I'd need at least three to start with :)~

I've mailed their UK supplier for costs but they are yet to come back to me.

Does anyone recommend a UK supplier that I can chat to on the phone or place a web order?

    Thanks

I'm in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex (near Brighton).

I've looked online and HIFiBitz.co.uk stock the C-DVD9 wall mounted but I would prefer the C-DVD9Q (same rack but with square supports).

I've already ruled out the Stainless Steel finish with smoked glass as it added £150 per rack (they are £230 without and I need 3 to start with as they each hold 213 DVDs).

I can recommend Vitsoe. They supply a range of shelves including ones designed to hold CDs. For example, a single 90cm shelf will store 86 CDs. You can find them at http://www.vitsoe.com/. I use their shelving for all my CDs, DVDs and books. The service I received from the company was superb - friendly, professional and efficient.

And about 60 DVDs (just counted) per 90cm shelf.

I've just bought 3 of the C-DVD9 units from Spectral as £240 per unit (216 disks per unit) wasn't a bad deal (from HiFiBitz (http://www.hifibitz.co.uk/product.asp?id=1011)) and that includes P&P.

The Vitsoe units look nice, I might consider these when I get around to gutting the living room and re-decorating it.

    Thanks for all your help.

Anyone know of any oak dvd racks? There's some really smart stuff on this thread but it just wouldn't go in my room. I've got oak shelves, cupboards and table so am after something to store my collection on that'd fit in. Any ideas?

Check these guys out. Not cheap but as with so many things you get what you pay for...perhaps! http://www.triskom.co.uk/.

Not everything in IKEA (or Argos, for that matter) is chipboard. We've got IKEA solid wood shelving for our collection (admittedly only 600 discs) which looks v. nice.

However, I hear what you say about wanting something different. Have you thought of a cabinet arrangment with the discs in drawers? [We had one custom-made for us for our CD collection, and it only cost a couple of hundred quid. I'd recommend the firm, except it went bust]. In most rooms this will be more space-efficient than shelving.
