O.K. now we have every poll under the sun on which way we store/watch/fondle/them - the question is what is the storage shelf/etc that you favour.
I used an old storage 6 shelf thing from ages ago,cut down to just over the width of a dvd and painted it is the perfect storage facility, only trouble they don`t do this one anymore so am searching for something nice, not keen on all those metal/chrome/glass/etc - just something nice - kinda old`ish wood looking - floor standing or maybe wall mounted(might be cool, going horizontially  ) - any helpers please.

I suppose personal preference is one way of doing it, but fashion is important! I had my DVD shelves especially made by a local firm - they are black and red, right up to the minute like ;)

    Nike Swish,

Your pronouncements are a load of hemispheroids. I would have thought that your colour scheme would have been more a light brown to match the colour of the stone under which you live.

Try the Argos catalogue or the website, not the prettiest things in the world but can hold upto 108 single discs and on a rotating base for only £20.

Using some big tall black shelves from Ikea at the moment but want to get something else to hold DVDs/VHS/Dreamcast games in. Haven't found anything yet but it might be glass shelves to match my coffee table and other new furniture my girlfriend wants - all glass based, although I'm the one who wants a Sonus AV stand ;) - silly prices but look very nice.

had a similar problem with my CD's.

In the end abandoned shelving etc and got a sony 400 disk cd-changer & put all the cases in the loft.

    Works for me.

Mahogany cabinet with storage at each end for dvd's, with leaded light doors, these are seperated buy a compartment in the middle with an adjustable shelf on which my dvd player is sat, underneath are the sky and cable boxes, also have a stacking unit in mahogany which houses the amp and video with storage at the bottom for the dvd's, also has a leaded light door. Both units match and look very swish. :D

My cd's are in an upright racking system with an uplighter on top.

Majority of my videos are in cardboard boxes, but some still on diy shelves. :D

My old VHS-tapes (about 200), CDs (about 120), MiniDiscs (about 300) and DVDs (about 100) are stuffed in 2 old cupboards on bent shelves...
Been planning to get something half-decent from Ikea for ages though...
