Stevegreen asked similar question (firmware flash) do a search, I and SG helped him out.

Not sure why sounds is distorted... have got got latest s/c drivers?

If you run out of changes it'll lock to the current region.

After flashing, use DVD genie to change the Windows region. Also since you've flashed it, it'll allow unlimited changes.

You need to flash the drive. Otherwise it'll lock the drive and you won't be able to change it (say it'll be stuck on R1, and impossible to change to R2).

    check here..

    Link to all drives...

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

and a util to check what make/model your DVD drive is, what region and how many changes left.

I would triple check that the reported drive is actually the one you have (remove the DVD-ROM and look for make & model no)

Thanks for your help mate,i am a bit unsure about changing things, but my mate owns his own pc building company and he upgrades my pc all the time so he can do it for me!!!I think the sound issue could be that the card a soundblaster 16 is the only piece of kit remaining from the original pc i bought in 1995!!!!!time to buy a new card i think.:D
