I have a Sony DVPNS700 and am wondering if its wise to get it chipped to make it region free. Its only a few months old and still has most of the guarentee left to run. The other thing is that I'm in Dublin - does anyone know of anywhere that chips dvd players here?.

I'm keen to be able to get my hands on some region 1 titles

    Thanks,
    Mick

I recently purchased one of these and the dealer did a remote hack to make it multiregion. Sadly I don't know the codes!

If you can get by without disabling Macrovision then this may be your best option as it shouldn't invalidate the warranty.

There are numerous sites that specialise in handset hacks, you should find it no problem.

I too bought the 700 from the Sony centre in Liffey Valley. They claimed ignorance of the handset mod and refused to call anyone to enquire. I would be interested in this, the sites I have seen dvdchips etc only ship to UK.

Getting it in Dublin! forget it.
Over the years I have imported my DVD players from the UK (especially Techtronics) because dealers quoted me between 140 and 200 pounds for chipping.

You can send your player to Techtronics to be modified. Visit their site www.techtronics.com for details.

To the best of my knowledge there is no "remote" or "do it yourself" hack for this SONY DVD Player.

There is a website, DVD Ireland.

They are based in Blanchardstown, so it is in Dublin as well.

    Good luck with your mod.
