As a newbie I hope this thread is in keeping with the forum.

Are the recordable DVDs available now in the high street using the medium to its full potential? I'm just asking because in the latest Argos catalogue there is a Philips DVDR880 for £599 & in their spec it says it can record up to 4hrs on one disc. Now last time I looked in Dixons their cheapest recorder was £799 down from about £999.

Being so cheap ( in comparisom to earlier machines) is the Philips DVDR a cut down version of much more expensive recorders? Can consumer DVDRs record on both sides AND both layers?

    Tony

    I have a phillips 890 and so it's great
quality of recordings is excellent and it works just like a vcr
so far there's only single sided blanks that I've seen and only 1 layer.
