I'm looking to make use of the DVI input on my (soon to arrive) LCD by upgrading my Toshiba SD220e. I thought I would try and kill two birds with one stone and get a DVD Recorder, rather than just a player but I haven't been able to locate one with a DVI output. I've read through loads of the threads, looked at lots of online shops (why don't these places allow you to search for electronics by feature?) but haven't been successful in locating anything at any price (although I'm not looking to spend a fortune)

Does such a thing exist yet? Are any of the manufacturers going to be producing such a product this year?

The options are that I go with a player such as the Samsung HD745 that has the DVI output, or go for a recorder with progressive scan component out.

The Pioneer DVDR920 has a HDMI output with which you can use an HDMI>DVI (HDCP) cable. You should note though that no DVD recorder will match the DVD playback of a decent dedicated DVD player.

They do - whether this will appear on the UK models remains to be seen though.
