    Hi All,

Looking to buy a DVD Recorder which has the following features and could do with a recommendation...

    > Must be able to play DiVX movies downloaded from the internet.
    > Must have a network adaptor to enable it to be connected to the home network via Cat5 cable (so movies can be copied from my pc to the HD on the DVD recorder).
    > A decent output suitable for a 42" Panasonic Plasma (42PE30).
    > MP3/JPG/etc. formats can be played/viewed.
    > Has an internal HD.

This lot is probably too much to ask for but it would be great to have the DiVX functionality as most of the movies on the net are in this format.

    Many thanx in advance!

    iCE.

Indeed it is - I'm afraid there is nothing that comes near to your requirements at the moment. MP3s/JPEGs etc will be played by most DVD recorders and there are lots of great HDD/DVDR models from Panasonic, Toshiba, JVC and Pioneer available. None have network capability though or DivX. JVC might add this next year though...

Have you thought of a 'normal' HDD/DVDR and a seperate Pinnacle Showshifter or similar?

The Sigmatek PVR-800 is the nearest but, as the name suggests, it isn't a DVD recorder, just a hard disc (removeable, I hasten to add - updateable via USB) job. Does playback DivX however :)

We'll be getting one in soon to review over at Area 450 as we've made friends with the UK importers :)

    OK,

So this little lot is too much to ask for, so:

Can you convert DiVX movies to files that are playable on, say, the Panasonic E85 once they're burned to a DVD?

I already have a PC DVD burner.

    Thanx in advance!

Yes - loads of guides online about that sort of thing - but take a look at:
