I am very new to the AV experience. I have a Sky digiox connected by S-video to a Denon AVR-1804 S-video out to TV (AV1) works fine. I recently brought a Panaonic DMR-E85 DVD Recorder and connected it to the AV Amp via S-video in and out with an optical audio link. VCR connected via scart to AV2 on TV. RF link is Digibox to DVD Recorder to VCR to TV. Problem is when I use the DVD Recorder the TV and the recording is in black and white an the audio is bad. Any advise would be much appreciated.

When someone mentions "Black and White" in connection with S-Video connections it usually means one of the units is not set to S-Video but is sending or expecting to receive composite video.
As the E85 is the newcomer I suspect you need to go into the menus and check the settings for input and outputs.

Sorry I can't offer advice on the poor audio problem.
