    Hello :hiya:

I've just had my fingers burn't trying to buy a DVD recorder over the internet with the company going bust  . Thankfully, with the help of my VISA card and bank, I've now got my money back and looking for a new DVD recorder  . I'm now reluctant to get my next one from the internet and my wife definitely is not keen !

Given my choice of stores is limited to John Lewis, Currys, Argos, Comet, Dixons and Richer Sounds, could you please a suggest a suitable DVD recorder. My requirements are:
    - iLink
    - support +RW or -RW (and either +R or -R)
    - preferably supports 3 hours bitrate
    - RGB output
    - preferably RGB input
    - allows RF signal through in standby and normal mode
    - quiet fan (not active while recorder not in use)
    - allows more than one timer programme to be set at any time
    - has a simple user interface
    - I will need to back up a few videos including our wedding video :)
    - it works!

Out of interest, do either of the following connection combinations work:
    - RGB scart to composite scart
    - Composite scart to RGB scart.

Any help would be appreciated. :D

I believe the Sony RDR-GX700 meets all your criteria allthough I think the fan is always on (except when in standby of course). However, I have the GX300 (same as GX700 but doesn't have i-Link) and I don't notice the fan at all.

Incidentally, the GX300/700 also have component out and prog. scan in case that was of interest.

    Hello

Thanks for the suggestion. From what I can see it looks quite expensive. I was trying to avoid spending more than £300.

Any more ideas? I did think about the JVC-DRM10 hence the scart question.

    More help please. :lease:

    Regards
    Alex

Well, the GX300 can be had for £300 (probably less) - it's pretty much identical to the GX700 except that it doesn't have iLink. IME it's unusual to find iLink on cheaper models but you may be lucky. I don't know the JVC model you refer to but they recently had a different model withdrawn from the market for reliability problems so tread carefully ;)

    Michael.
