Maybe a really stupid question as i am new to all this stuff... but what is the point of having both SKY+ and a DVD recorder ? Especially, when you have to pay £10/month for SKY+

Sky+ just makes recording a doddle, and most people would agree once you've had it you can't live without it.

The problem is though, as soon as you stop subscribing, access to any previously recorded programs is denied.
You also from time to time will want to archive stuff, freeing up space on the Sky+ box's internal hard disc... so a DVD recorder is handy.

Also, transferring stuff to DVD makes it portable, and is probably a more reliable long term storage medium.
Sky+ hard discs have a tendancy to pack up.

thanks Jules, can you not buy the SKY+ box to avoid paying the £10/month charge - and is that £10/month indefinite or only for a year

I understand that you do not pay the subscription if you take one of the premium channel packages like Sky Sports.

Yes if u suscribe to the movie and or sports channels you dont have to pay the £10 a month suscription, The sky+ box has twin inputs so you can record 2 channels at the same time or you can watch one sat channel and record another also you can pause and rewind live tv , it's much easier to program than a normal recorder, though it would still be nice to have a dvd recorder to arcive anything you want to keep,
