I've got Panasonic's dmr85 which I'm well pleased with. rrp is £600, but Richer Sounds sells it for £400. Highlights include 80GB hdd, excellent editing, ram dvd-r compatibility, prog scan via component out, rgb scart in for excellent digital tv recordings. Very good dvd playback. Has scored highly in all mag reviews. HCC currently has it as there number 1 dvd rec, an has been there since it was released.

I have the Toshiba XS32 and am more than happy with it. Have had no problems writing to either -R or -RW discs and, having the Harddrive, leaves a VCR for dead - as does the picture quality.

Editing is quite simple although I prefer to edit on PC.
