    Hi All,

Apart from some cabling details, it looks like the next upgrade for me is a new DVD player. The DVD7's two years old now and looks to have been eclipsed by advances in technology. It doesn't have a component video out (I was unimpressed with the DVD8 so don't wish to upgrade), it downsamples everything to 48KHz (so no DTS96/24), and it doesn't have progressive PAL.

What I'm after is a DVD player to be used only as a transport. It must support PAL progressive. 96KHz digital audio would be nice. CD replay is unimportant. It has to be a significant improvement over the DVD7/PSXR combo and I'm looking to spend no more than £2K. Any other features (DVD-A/SACD/etc.) a bonus but I ain't paying no more for 'em ;)

    Any recommendations?

    D.

    Edited for corrections and clarifications.

A secondhand Tag? I paid just over £2,000 for mine a little while ago. It'll work well with your AV32R, and is as future proof as it is possible to make AV kit.

    Regards

A definite contender - particularly with sync link.

How about a Meridian 596? A fantastic DVD player.

This guy has one for sale at a the bargain price of £1700, and it's the one with the BNC Component video outputs instead of the crappy scart socket. You can configure the BNC output for RGB or Component. Well worth a look.

    Thanks Gary.

Unfortunately, I'm not in the market just yet (only just bought my Tag) but the Meridian's a good choice. I'll visit their site.

The Meridian 598 is just out as well which has progressive PAL, DVD-A option etc etc.

    Arcam is another option.
