Hi Peeps, I have a DV8 Plus, I recently got a DVD burner, and have tried to back up some of my best DVDs, I found that I can't get -R discs to play, the display says "bad disc". I then tried a +R disc that came with the burner and it worked. Have any of you other Arcam DVD owners had compatability issues with Recordable DVD media?
    Cheers, Stu

What software version does your player have?

    Have a look on here
    http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=28&Search=Search&#comments

You need to read from the bottom up. Hope it helps ( I haven;t read it all)

I did note the following comment:-
    <QUOTE><B>
This machine won't play DVD-R's burnt using just the UDF mode in Nero (most other players like them burnt this way) It requires UDF/ISO mode
At least it wouldn't for me anyway</B></QUOTE>

Cheers, I've used the code in the forum you posted onefivenine,to get my software version, it was 2.1.8.32.1/LT75/02/FF
    Loading Tray was LT75.

I'll have a look at this UDF mode thing, see if that helps. Its not a problem per se to use +R other than the 10p extra per disc from my local dealer!! Just be nice to know why it is having compatablity problems, and improve my understanding of why these issues arise.
    Cheers, Stu

I have software version 4.12.0/LT76/02/FF and use TraxData -R discs and they work fine using Nero and a Sony DVD burner (DRU-500A).

That's an early software version you are using at present.
I remember trying a DVD-R when I first had my player and it didn't work. I wasn't worried because I had no need to play DVD-R's.
I subsequently tried it later after a couple of updates and it worked.
It may be worth getting hold of later software.
Give Arcam's excellent support desk a call, and they'll send you out a copy.
