Does anybody know if the Sony DVP-CX850D DVD multi-changer is capable of playing back DVD-R discs?

If not, is it possible to upgrade the firmware to allow it to do so?

    Cheers,

    Dave

The latter is not very likely to happen; for the former look up vcdhelp on Google.

Wow thanks!! That site has all the info you could ever wish for. Just in case anybody else is interested, the Sony DVP-CX850D seems to be very compatible with DVD-R discs - Princo and White Label Bulk Paq are 2 brands that have been tested with no problems.

The reports on the site also state that this player is compatible with:

    DVD-RW
    DVD+R
    DVD+RW
    CD-RW
    and certain CD-R discs

I'm VERY glad I bought this player now!! I got it 2nd hand about 2 months ago for only £175 :D
